Bomgar Passes Symantec Security Assessment for the Third Consecutive Time

RIDGELAND, Miss. - November 8, 2010 - Bomgar Corporation, the worldwide leader in secure, appliance-based remote support, today released the results of its most recent Symantec Security Assessment.  During a four-month engagement, Symantec put the Bomgar Appliance through a rigorous Product Penetration Assessment to evaluate the application's components and related environment against established security best practices. The test is designed to model specific attack scenarios, identifying vulnerabilities and determining what, if any, resources could be compromised through attacks on confidentiality, integrity or availability.  Passing the Symantec Security Assessment for the third time in five years, the Bomgar Appliance is designed and implemented with security best practices in mind.

The Bomgar solution equips IT support organizations with clientless, remote control access of end-user systems, enabling IT to deliver tech support anytime, anywhere.  During the assessment, Symantec identified aspects of Bomgar's security architecture that offer protection against a variety of threats:

• Dedicated hardware appliance: The Bomgar solution ships as a self-contained appliance that is easily integrated into existing infrastructures and serves as the centralized routing interface for its remote support software.  The Symantec Security Assessment results indicated that vulnerabilities were sufficiently mitigated by controls that limited possible attacks.
• Server-side authentication and authorization:  Control privileges allow Bomgar administrators to assign levels of accessibility and authentication at the support representative level. Symantec's attempts to bypass the authentication components during the Security Assessment were rejected by the application, thereby preventing access to functionality and data on the server.
• Communications encryption: To protect the integrity of the customer's data and prevent unauthorized eavesdropping and/or modification of application data, Bomgar uses 256 bit SSL to encrypt all application communications in transit.
• Application client security:  Each remote Bomgar session allows end users to retain overriding control, and the application leaves zero-footprint once the session is ended. During the penetration assessment, testers were unable to obtain control over customer machines that were granted only viewing privileges and were not able to resume a support session once the session had been terminated. During sessions which did provide remote control of the customer's workstation, testers found that the remote customer could regain control of the workstation and terminate the connection at any time during the session.
