Bomgar Remote Support Solution Receives NIST Validation for Stringent FIPS 140-2 Government Security Standard
Bomgar Remains Only Remote Support Solution to Obtain FIPS 140-2 Certification and Accreditation for use in U.S. Government Agencies
December 14, 2011JACKSON, MS - December 14, 2011 - Bomgar, the worldwide leader in secure, enterprise remote support solutions, today announced it has been awarded a Level 2 Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS) 140-2 Validation: Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules for its B200, B300 and B400 appliances and version 10.6.2 software. FIPS 140-2 validation is a requirement for any cryptographic product which will be used in a U.S. government agency network. Bomgar is the only remote support solution to achieve independent FIPS 140-2 certification and accreditation, ensuring its customers' data remains safe from the most sophisticated methods of intrusion.
"We are proud to have once again obtained FIPS validation for our remote support appliances and software," said Scott Braynard, VP of Public Sector at Bomgar. "Government agencies handle high-profile, confidential information that should never be put at risk to fall into the wrong hands. This acknowledgment further fulfills our promise to provide our customers with the highest degree of security, assurance and dependability with the Bomgar remote support solution."
The FIPS 140-2 standard is a joint effort by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States, and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), under the Canadian government. The Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), headed by NIST, provides module and algorithm testing for FIPS 140-2, which applies to Federal agencies using validated cryptographic modules to protect sensitive government data in computer and telecommunication systems. FIPS 140-2 was the main input document for developing ISO/IEC 19790 and is gaining worldwide recognition as an important benchmark for third-party validations of encryption products of all kinds.
The Bomgar solution allows organizations to provide remote technical support to nearly any device located anywhere in the world, including desktops, laptops, servers, POS systems and kiosks, and mobile devices. Bomgar's unique appliance model has enabled the company to successfully work with security-conscious enterprises, including 41 of the 50 State Governments, the Department of Defense and nine of the 15 Departments of the Federal Executive Branch.
In order to expedite the FIPS 140-2 validation process, Bomgar partnered with Corsec Security, Inc., a consulting firm with almost fourteen years of validation experience. "Receiving FIPS 140-2 validation and accreditation is a rigorous process, and any product that can obtain the validation is an asset to security-focused organizations," said Matthew Appler, CEO of Corsec Security. "FIPS 140-2 validation of the Bomgar remote support solution provides users with a high degree of security, assurance, and dependability."
